• The average annual wage for a credentialed coder is $44,750 (a 4% increase from last year), compared to $37,290 for a non-credentialed coder. Being certified adds more than $7,000 to the average salary over being non-certified.

• Not only do certified coders show a jump in salary and opportunity, but paired with an earlier study published in the March 25 journal For the Record, coders with an AAPC certification fared positively while those with other credentials suffered during the downturn.
